Born and raised in Rhode Island, Shaun is a dedicated family man with a strong sense of community. He enjoys spending quality time with his family (including his two dogs Pearl Lee Gates Mark, and Mya Mya Etienne-Mark), exploring the natural beauty of New England, and participating in local community events. Shaun is also an avid supporter of veteran affairs and law enforcement initiatives, stemming from his background in the U.S. Navy and law enforcement.

Causes he supports:

Advocating for affordable housing and community development through education, mentorship, and active involvement in local development projects. Shaun is a board member for Youth Moving Forward, which provides transitional services to young men previously in foster care, and a board member of the Women’s Development Corporation (WDC), which focuses on creating and managing housing for low- and moderate-income families, the elderly, and persons with special needs.


Shaun specializes in real estate finance and development law, offering comprehensive legal services in commercial and residential real estate transactions across all asset classes. His expertise includes structuring complex financial transactions, real estate acquisitions, leasing, secured financing, land use, title, loan workout, creative financing, and environmental matters. He is also known for his strategic advice in state and federal low-income housing, and historic tax credit-eligible projects, ensuring the development and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing for underserved populations.

Professional experience:

Shaun has more than 5 years of experience as a real estate finance and community development attorney. As Of Counsel at Simply Legal, he provides strategic advice and support in various real estate finance matters. He has held significant roles such as Associate General Counsel at The RMR Group, LLC, and Real Estate Finance Associate at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, where he spearheaded commercial real estate leasing negotiations and advised on complex financial transactions. His background also includes substantial experience in community development finance from his time at Nixon Peabody LLP.
