In late January 2021, Simply Legal attorney Crystal Revilla obtained an award in favor of Simply Legal’s client from the American Arbitration Association. The arbitration action was filed against a well-known local hotel that failed to pay Simply Legal’s client over $40,000.00 in past due invoices. The contract between the parties required any and all disputes to be resolved by binding arbitration before the American Arbitration Association and gave the arbitrator the discretion to award the prevailing party, if any, attorneys’ fees and costs incurred in attempting to collect any past due payments.
The arbitrator ultimately awarded Simply Legal’s client the total amount requested in damages plus all of the attorneys’ fees and costs (including reimbursement for the arbitrator’s compensation and administrative fees) incurred by the client for the entire arbitration proceeding. The award required the respondent to satisfy the award, in full, within thirty (30) days.
“We are thrilled that we were able to obtain this victory for our client, who is in the hospitality industry. The last year has been very difficult for everybody. Those in the hospitality have been severely affected by COVID-19 so getting our client compensated for the services it performed and reimbursed for all of its attorneys’ fees and costs made this win that much better,” said associate attorney Crystal Revilla.
